Suspect part of FBI investigation into an April 2009 suicide bombing in Iraq that claimed the lives of five American soldiers

January 19, 2011 — Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety made the following statement following the arrest of Sayfildin Tahir Sharif in Edmonton:  

“I would like to commend the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for their work in collaborating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the arrest of Sayfildin Tahir Sharif.

The Government of Canada remains unwavering in its commitment to protect Canadians and support the global fight against terrorism.   That is why Canada works very closely with international partners, including the United States, to combat terrorism and its perpetrators. 

We face the same threats and share the same concerns.”
