MONCTON, August 17, 2011 — Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, joined RCMP officers for an early-morning ride-along in Moncton, New Brunswick. This visit was one of several the Minister is making across Canada this summer, as he experiences first hand the important work law-enforcement officers do to make our communities safer.
“Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to keep our streets and communities safe. This summer I am taking the opportunity to see the work our law enforcement officers carry out each and every day, on behalf of Canadians across Canada,” said Minister Toews. “There is no task more important to the Government of Canada than the protection of our citizens. This task is made possible because of the commitment, dedication and courage of these officers.”
Earlier this month, Minister Toews was in Surrey, B.C. where he toured the RCMP Border Integrity Operations Centre where officials use state-of-the-art technology to secure the Canada–U.S. border. He has also toured the Canada Border Services Agency's operations at the Ambassador Bridge Point of Entry in Windsor, the Pacific Highway Commercial Operations Point of Entry in Surrey, and Pearson International Airport in Toronto.
“It has been really inspiring for me to see our law enforcement officers in action,” said Minister Toews. “These men and women are on the frontlines of protecting the safety of Canadians and their communities. Their professionalism and dedication is unmatched.”
