OTTAWA, December 2, 2013 —The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement:

“Today we join with members of law enforcement agencies across Canada in offering our deepest condolences to family and friends of Constable John Zivcic. Our prayers will be with John and his loved ones in this very difficult time.

“On behalf of all Canadians, we mourn the loss of a young man who slipped away so early in life, while working in the service of his community. His loss is felt by us all; however his legacy will endure.
