||“Get in Gear Without Veering off the Road” is a road safety information campaign. The campaign started in spring 2012 and targets young drivers and passengers aged 16 to 24. It encourages the adoption of responsible driving behaviours.
||This initiative has several objectives:
- target drivers aged 16 to 24 to reduce speeding and reduce drug use and alcohol use while driving;
- emphasize the importance of wearing a seat belt;
- show the negative consequences of peer influence; and
- increase parental support in efforts to improve road safety.
||It is too early to evaluate this initiative. Evaluations may be done following years three, four and five, using youth surveys and statistics from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).
||Implementing this initiative required about 160 police personnel hours. Planned promotional materials include posters, key chain holders, stickies, and video clips. The cost of this initiative has not yet been calculated.
