For over 10 years, Charlottetown Police Services, together with Summerside Police Services, has had a partnership agreement with Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) ‘L’ Division, through a memorandum of understanding, to share three Charlottetown Police Services members with the provincial ‘L’ Division Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). This partnership allows for a joint response to critical incidents. The specialized training of CIRT members gives all participating police services a greater capacity to respond to critical incidents. For example, a hostage situation that requires the presence of a negotiator would require CIRT expertise. All CIRT officers within the province train together and are able to respond to and provide support for the critical incident. |

This initiative is a cost-effective way of enhancing the capacity of Charlottetown Police Services to respond to critical incidents. |
| Outcomes: |
The sharing of resources gives all participating police services increased capacity in critical incident response at reduced training, and deployment costs. As a result of this partnership, Charlottetown Police Services has greater capacity to respond to critical incidents. An evaluation of this initiative has not been conducted. |

This initiative does not require significant resources. Participating police services, including the Charlottetown Police Service, provide the initial and ongoing training at the Canadian Police College and cover deployment costs for their individual members. |
