DFAA before April 1, 2025
In this section, you'll find information on how the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA) program works, the current program Guidelines, and Guideline interpretation bulletins for eligible disasters occurring before April 1, 2025.
The DFAA program currently has two sets of Guidelines. The Guidelines that a province or territory follow depends on when the eligible disaster took place.
In order to help build more resilient communities in the face of more frequent and severe disasters, the DFAA recently underwent a review and modernization process that resulted in new program Guidelines that apply to eligible disasters occurring on or after April 1, 2025.
Since it can take a number of years after an eligible disaster for a final payment under the DFAA to be received and processed, the former Guidelines will continue to apply for eligible disasters occurring before April 1, 2025.
