Search and Rescue New Initiatives Fund

The Search and Rescue New Initiatives Fund program is accepting applications for funding between Wednesday, November 1, 2023 and Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 12:00pm (noon) Pacific time.

The Search and Rescue New Initiatives Fund (SAR NIF), was established by the federal government in 1988, and is managed by Public Safety Canada (PS), in partnership with other federal, provincial and territorial search and rescue (SAR) organizations.

SAR NIF provides annual funding for projects that will improve Canada’s search and rescue system. SAR NIF projects submitted under this call for proposals must address at least one of the annual priority initiatives listed in the Call for Proposals.

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact one of the federal, provincial / territorial, or national volunteer association SAR NIF partners to ensure that proposals developed by applicants address program and partner priorities.

Eligible recipients

  1. Not-for-profit Canadian organizations;
  2. Canadian Associations from volunteer community;
  3. Governments (Provincial/Territorial, Municipal/Regional, or Indigenous);
  4. Canadian universities and educational institutions;
  5. Indigenous organizations;
  6. For-profit Canadian organizations, provided that the nature and intent of the activity is non-commercial.

Submission

The Application for Funding can be found online and its use is mandatory. Applicants must use it to upload the mandatory workplan template, budget template, and, if applicable, the list of equipment, materials and supplies template.
