We will occasionally retweet/share content that we believe is of value to our audience.

The use of social media channels is intended to encourage interaction between Canadian social media users and Public Safety Canada, and in no way verifies or confirms either the accuracy of user comments or their compliance with the requirements outlined here. Public Safety Canada does not endorse views in comments posted by users.

Social Media Hours

We monitor and update our social media channels between 8am and 5pm E.S.T. Monday to Friday, excluding federal holidays observed in Ontario.

During urgent situations, we provide additional coverage as required.

We accept no responsibility for any social media platform downtime.

Replies and Direct Messages

We read all @replies, comments and direct messages sent to us. We will respond in the official language (English or French) of the user's choice when deemed appropriate. We may also share comments with other federal departments when necessary to respond.

If we feel a comment or a question requires a response with a greater level of detail, we may develop a formal response and distribute the information through other channels such as our website or other social media channels. We pay attention to emerging themes and helpful suggestions and look forward to this interaction.

We encourage posts that are on topic, respectful and allow for further discussion.

We have the right to ignore or mute comments that contain inappropriate material as outlined below. We also have the right to block and/or report users who do not abide by this protocol.

We also don't engage on issues of party politics.

Media are asked to contact Public Safety Canada at 613-991-0657 and refrain from submitting questions on social media.
