North American Dialogue on Drug Policy

Statement

On November 9, 2018, officials of the governments of Canada, Mexico, and the United States convened for the third annual high-level meeting of the North American Dialogue on Drug Policy (NADD). The NADD is the result of a commitment made by the three countries at the 2016 North American Leaders Summit to hold annual trilateral meetings. These engagements, by bringing together law enforcement and health officials, are enabling our governments to collectively address the many facets of the transnational opioid epidemic and the broader drug crisis facing the continent. Under the auspices of the NADD, the three countries have engaged in a wide range of study tours, training events, and information sharing initiatives designed to promote best practices and find practical, working level solutions to challenges associated with the drug crisis.

Our governments are developing actions and taking steps to protect citizens from harmful drugs and drug trafficking. At the next meeting in 2019, the three governments will review progress made in areas of discussion including collaboration, supply reduction efforts, and best practices in prevention and treatment.
