Parliamentary Committee Notes: GBA+ Question Re: Critical Cyber Systems Protection Act
Q: Was a GBA+ analysis of the initiative completed? If so, what were its findings?
A:
Yes, a GBA+ analysis was completed for the Critical Cyber Systems Protection Act.
The initiative seeks to address challenges identified in the 2016 Cyber Review, a public consultation with groups and stakeholders that were representative of Canada's regions and diversity.
As such, the proposed Initiative both reflects and accounts for the views of different stakeholders who provided their views. It conveys the importance of cyber security for CI, and its respective implications for Canadians' security and safety.
In particular, the assessment highlighted the evidence that women and girls are more susceptible to the criminal uses of advancements in artificial intelligence and cybercrime, and that youth and seniors are disproportionately targeted by cyber criminals.
By raising the cyber security baseline across federally regulated critical infrastructure upon which all Canadians rely, we are in turn ensuring that the government is taking legislative and concrete steps to protect these more targeted groups from cyber threats writ large.
