Parliamentary Committee Notes: CSC - National Satellite Training Academy (Budget 2024)

Proposed Response

Background

Due to the requirements for the continuation of the National Satellite Training Academy (NSTA) training program which includes contractual costs which are currently being cash-managed. This funding will allow CSC to continue to maintain the existing NSTA program and the contract issued in April 2024 by PSPC for the use of the current training facilities at Holland College, including all necessary services such as accommodation, travel and food. This funding is crucial to help minimize the disruption and maximize the use of established resources to achieve the necessary desired outcome to train sufficient numbers of well-trained and competent correctional officer personnel to allow CSC to better meet the staffing requirements of federal institutions around the country.

Since 2018, CSC has been without a centralized training facility following the end of its MOU with the RCMP. In order to address its ongoing increasing needs for training requirements for additional staff due to various factors, e.g., as the increase of population and the abolishment of segregation, CSC entered into a contractual arrangement with Holland College in February 2019.
