We remain deeply concerned about the threat of terrorism and rise of violent extremism across this country.
Canada has seen a noticeable increase in youth radicalization, particularly as terrorists and violent extremists increasingly use the internet and other technology to connect, recruit, radicalize, and disseminate propaganda.
Of course, the reach and influence of these actors are not limited to youth. All members of our society are vulnerable to these new and emerging methods of radicalization.
Over the past year, my department has been working across the national security community and with provincial and territorial partners to update our Counter-Terrorism Strategy to ensure that our tools and approaches to countering terrorism and violent extremism remain effective in this changing operating environment.
We continue to closely monitor and respond to the evolving threat posed by terrorists and violent extremists and can employ a variety of national security tools to combat this threat.
