Parliamentary Committee Notes: Public Safety Canada’s work and plans on misinformation and disinformation
The Government of Canada is gravely concerned with foreign governments use of disinformation in an attempt to influence Canadian domestic and foreign policy. For example, the Kremlin’s attempts to undermine Canada’s support for Ukraine.
Public Safety Canada’s National and Cyber Security Branch works closely with the Canadian S&I community and portfolio agencies to coordinate domestic and international responses to foreign disinformation operations that present a risk to our national security.
Public Safety Canada is actively working with partners, including PCO Democratic Institutions to develop policy solutions to counter foreign information operations and disinformation.
Housed at Public Safety, Canada’s National Counter-Foreign Interference Coordinator has, and will continue to engage with at-risk Canadian communities, civil society partners, as well as sub-national governments to raise awareness of these issues while at the same time increasing the Government of Canada’s understanding of Canadian perspectives and challenges, which informs our collective actions in this space.
