The Government of Canada will neither release nor comment on the names or the parties referenced in the NSICOP report as it would be irresponsible to do so.
The collection of intelligence occurs through a variety of means and is done without the awareness of individuals potentially named in the collection. It is critical that the Government of Canada safeguard sensitive intelligence sources and methods.
It is also important to note that information contained in intelligence reports is not evidence and cannot be considered to be conclusive.
The public naming of individuals, prior to meeting an appropriate level of proof, has the potential to cause unjustified damage to reputations.
Where there is reason to believe that a criminal activity has occurred, it is within the RCMP’s mandate to investigate.
